Warped '09 Gear!

Looks like Warped '09 has brought a few equipment changes. Dustin is no longer using Line 6 amps, and has switched to a handwired Vox AC30. He's still using his black Nash Tele. Teppei is still using his AC30 also, which is stock and from the 90s.

In the videos of the new songs being played on this tour, The Weight and All The World Is Mad, Teppei is using his semi-hollow Gibson (possibly a replacement for his Epiphone Casino?)g, which appears to be an ES-335 (sunburst color). He mentioned using this in the studio too, so it looks like we may be hearing this guitar more than his old stand-bys, the Les Paul and Tele on the Beggars album. Alvin Lee, BB King and Rich Robinson would be proud.

I found pics on this blog. There are some good shots of Teppei's Gibson. Apparently, this guitar is being used in place of his Les Paul on Of Dust and Nations and Deadbolt. It looks like the LP isn't even being used on this tour. Teppei is still using his Tele and Jaguar on the other songs.

Sorry for the lack of updates, there just hasn't been much to talk about lately! Teppei has been getting pretty in-depth over at Thrice.net, which is awesome- and also leaves me at a loss for things to write about, haha. Thanks for reading as always, and if you notice anything I didn't then point it out!

Actually, Teppei did play Of Dust And Nations with the ES, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMeKvNLVpc8
He also played Deadbolt with it and I don't think actually used the Les Paul for the entire set. He used the Tele for The Artist In The Ambulance, i'm pretty sure, but it looks like he's not used the Les Paul at all on Warped

But yeah, the majority of the set was the ES, except for The Artist In The Ambulance and Hold Fast Hope, on the Tele, and Firebreather which was of course on the Jaguar.

The ES seems to now play all the new songs and everything the Les Paul used to play.

Thanks! Heh, I'm not going to judge what he's playing by finger positions anymore.

That's pretty cool!

Mike, FYI the entire band minus Riley are using Line 6 M13's.

Yep, the switch to the M13s came partly because of reliability problems with the DL4s. Apparently they've gone through quite a few.

Yes, Line 6 DL4's are known for problems along with all their other modelers, here's a clear view of Dustin's pedalboard,

Hey Mike. I love your blog! It's so informative! I was wondering, and hopefully this is an ok place to ask, do you know what kind of stuff Riley used to produce the electronic drums in the Alchemy Index (i.e. The Messenger, Digital Sea)? I remember he mentioned using Reason, but I haven't heard anything other than that. But I've noticed that for The Messenger, as least, Riley doesn't play the drums, instead letting them play from a PA (this is only valid for the shows I've seen). Any insight? Thanks again!

Teppei's guitar might be an Antique Vintage Sunburst ES-339 which is smaller than the ES-335

this is such an awesome blog. i love reading about the gear that my favorite bands use, it has definitely helped me find the tones that i've looked for in the past.

michael - i believe that all the programming has been done on reason as far as drums go, but they've used that and logic for various soft synths. as mentioned in the post about the house of blues dvd (and on the interview portion of the dvd) it's said that riley uses a roland SPDS pad to trigger the programmed drums live. if you're thinking about getting reason, i would really encourage you to do so. it's a great investment and well worth the time you have to put into getting familiar with it.

Brad's right about the programming. Riley does all the triggering with the SPDS pad as well as playing over the prerecorded stuff.

And thanks Brad! I've always loved learning about how my favorite musicians approach their equipment to get their sound, and it's awesome to know that this blog is helping other people with that too. :)

Just to help you out, Teppei uses a Vox AC30TBX and Dustin's AC30 is the exact same amp, it's one of the limited edition runs they did of the TBX's. Its the fawn one. They also made red and purple ones. You can tell by the grill cloth, the newer handwired ones have a brown grill and are actually cream colored instead of actual fawn. Just a little help from a fellow AC30 lover/ owner! Oh, and also i'm pretty sure Teppei's homemade tubescreamer is an ITS808 kit from Generalguitargadgets.com. Love this page man, keep up the good work!
